Description
The Song of Atlanta Show Chorus held its annual Young Women in Harmony “Diva Day” Music Festival on Saturday, February 2, 2013. This Festival taught the skills and shared the joy and rewards of performing and singing four-part harmony, barbershop style. Our guest clinician was the amazing Jennifer Cooke! Our next festival will be held on February 8, 2014.
Important facts about the Festival:
• The event will consist of a morning and afternoon clinic and rehearsal. • There will be a public performance in the evening with Song of Atlanta, the 2013 Sweet Adelines International 5th Place Chorus and the festival chorus. • We will hold the annual “Song of Atlanta Sing-Off Competition” during the day. This competition is completely optional. Auditions will be held during the day and the competition will be held during the evening show. Students can compete by themselves or with friends. Also, they can sing using an instrument, a karaoke track, or a cappella! If they make the "Top 5," they will be asked to perform during the Diva Day Festival show. At the conclusion of the show, the "Top 3" will be announced and they will be asked to come on stage to receive a cash prize and other gifts. • The registration fee is $20 per singer. Female students who are currently enrolled in a high school choral music program are eligible to participate. • Sweet Adelines and Song of Atlanta will cover the remaining costs for all sheet music, learning CDs, rehearsal facilities, guest clinicians, and performance costumes. • Lunch and dinner are included for all registered participants. • About eight weeks prior to the festival, participants will receive sheet music and practice recordings for several songs arranged in the barbershop style. This music will be used as the platform for the Festival.

Diva Day is an all day festival and performance that gives young women an opportunity to learn more about our art form. Young Women In Harmony is a program that teaches these emerging voices the skills, joy and rewards of performing and singing four-part harmony, barbershop style. It offers both musical excellence and education while it gives young women a taste of show business. This program provides educational tools to teach young women singers the joy of performing this American vocal music art form.
