“We hope we grow on you!” Named for the prolific vine that has taken over much of the Southeastern US, Kudzu quartet prides itself on the musical experience of its members...
Bass Rita Bryant has been a member of several multi-medaling quartets, including Peach Jam and Uproar! Baritone/Lead Margaret Rhodes was a Music History major in college, has been a Sweet Adeline for 13 years and a member of Lola and Rendezvous quartets. Lead/Baritone Rebecca Bryant sang with Margaret in Rendezvous, and was a country music radio DJ in Atlanta; Tenor Marianna Joslyn has been a Sweet Adeline for 16 years, sang for 10 years with Midnight Special quartet in Arlington, VA, and with Electra! in Atlanta, both of which won 5th place regional medals. Kudzu is proud to be a registered Sweet Adelines International quartet, and Marianna and Margaret are also current members of the Song of Atlanta chorus. Starting with Singing Valentines, Kudzu spent their first year together working on a fun repertoire and enjoying a variety of performances around town. And like the “
climbing, coiling, and trailing vine native to southern Japan and southeast China” (source: Wikipedia), Kudzu’s members have their tentacles in a wide variety of professions and hobbies. Rita is a Cobb County school teacher. Margaret teaches horseback riding, and she and her husband share the title of the only married couple to have competed (separately) on “Jeopardy!” Rebecca is a Licensed Medical Esthetician for a dermatology practice. Marianna spends her non-barbershop time working for CNN. *(from Wikipedia) Kudzu is sometimes called gé gēn[1] (Chinese: 葛根), and (due to its out-of-control growth in the Southeastern United States) has earned such pejorative nicknames as the "foot-a-night vine", "mile-a-minute vine"[1], and "the vine that ate the South" (of the United States).[2]
