Martini Quartet is excited and proud to be the 2012 Sweet Adelines International Quartet Champions!!
More About Martini Quartet:
Martini was formed in July of 2007 over a round of Cosmopolitans at Sandy Marron's place in Tacoma, WA. Right from the beginning, they knew they had a special blend of flavours and colours....this Martini is shaken AND stirred!
In April 2008, after only five rehearsals, Martini (Sandy Marron, Lisa Myers, DeAnne Haugen and Shannon Harris) competed in the Region 26 Convention held in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where they placed first with a regional record-breaking score of 623 points. This qualified them to make their international competition debut in Honolulu in November of 2008 where they placed 8th. Martini then achieved Top 5 appearances in 2009 in Nashville (as version 1.0) and in 2010 in Seattle (as version 2.0 with Sandy Marron, Michelle Shoemaker, DeAnne Haugen and Shannon Harris). Finally, as version 3.0, Michelle, Corinna, DeAnne & Shannon’s ultimate goal was reached in October 2011 in Houston!
All 4 members of Martini are long time members of Sweet Adelines and active chorus members in their regions. Tenor, Corinna Garriock is Assistant Director of Lions Gate Chorus where bass, Shannon Harris is also a member and Bass Section Coach. Baritone, DeAnne Haugen sings with the 2012 International Chorus Champions, Melodeers. Lead, Michelle Shoemaker sings with the Song of Atlanta Show Chorus and is their Music Team President and Tenor Section Leader.
Being a long distance quartet does have its challenges. Martini typically rehearses in the Seattle area. Corinna and Shannon drive 3.5 hours south from Burnaby and Surrey, BC, Michelle flies 5.5 hours northwest from Atlanta, GA and DeAnne flies 3.5 hours west Menomonee Falls, WI. That’s a total of over 7,500 km.
During their time together, they have had the opportunity to be coached by some amazing people: Sandy Marron, Jim Arns, Renee Porzel, Carole Kirkpatrick, Judy Pozsgay-Rimple, Beth Smith and many more.
